The Eastern Sierra is home to several types of trout: Brook, Brown,
Cut-Throat, Golden and Rainbow. These fish can be found in the hundreds of lakes
and streams in the Mono and Inyo counties.
Some areas within just a short drive are:
West Walker River - this river is located just a
very short distance from Meadowcliff. Easy public access is just a short 1/4 mile away. Looking
for more holes that trout love start just about 3 miles away. This river
receives about 60,000+ trout plants each year.
Little Walker River - this river is for those that like to hike
and hunt for fish. Both native and plants can be found here, just about 16 miles
Kirman (Karmen) Lake - perfect for the fly-fisherman and float tuber.
Large native fish is a short 16 mile drive from Meadowcliff. Then a short 3 mile
hike through some very beautiful scenery. Well worth the hike! A must for those
that want big native fish.
Bridgeport Reservoir - Just a short 25 minutes south of
Meadowcliff. This reservoir is used by boaters but can also be fished from
shore. Boat ramps and boat rentals are available at the lake. The lake is
planted with thousands of rainbows and browns. Best fishing is the
Spring time and Fall seasons
East Walker River - This is very well known for it's trophy
sized fish. A must on any fisherman's schedule. Well known for it's large
rainbows and browns. It can be fished from Bridgeport Reservoir to the Nevada
State line with a California Fishing license. For those that want lots of native
browns, get a Nevada License and continue fishing down stream from the Nevada
Twin Lakes - Located just south of Bridgeport, these high
mountain lakes produce some very large browns either from boats or from shore.
